I wanted to create some paintings to mix up the texture of mediums to collage into my moving image video. I am tapping into the concept of nostalgia again and basing the paintings of the 70s popular American children's cartoons .
Paint as a medium itself is very expressive and represents childhood to me. It also provides a good contrast and conflict between the other mediums I will be using within my final moving image which are all digitalised videography.
I wanted to bring these paintings into motion to fit more closely to my brief, so I experimented with Ruff mercy explosion techniques that I find very visually interesting.
Ruff mercy is a spray paint artist and designer, working in motion frequently. He is create music videos for artists like Thom Yorke and The chemical brothers. He has been a huge inspiration of mine for a long while, due to his unique take on collaged work and blurring the lines between paint and motion
I then decided to incorporate my
three dimensional visual
representations of erosion of the
soldiers identity. This also can incorporate
within the nostalgia being tainted and skewed due
to Hanoi Hannah's propaganda
techniques that she used.
I love the roughness in texture of the paint, I also love the brightness of the colours. If I had more time I would develop the motion of these more.
