I have images of the Stockholm bank robbery 1973 ( Stockholm Syndrome ), character stills from 'Love Witch' 2016 ( female fantasy and obsession ),, sexual fantasy ( soldiers have towards Hanoi Hannah ), Vietnamese propaganda, American GI Joe comics ( by Dave Breger ), GI Joe barbie doll ( with hand of manipulation I collaged in ), asian sexualisation ( Vietnamese war was a huge driving force of this ), Vietnamese/ asian drawn landscapes, and Vietnamese celebrities and actresses ( " I'm surprised Hanoi Hannah didn't make it to Hollywood "). I experimented with black and also colour, based on my manipulation cycle with colour theory.

the adobe aero process - from tracking my bedroom environment to placing my digital collage elements

Adobe aero experience without motion of individual elements

adding behaviours to the elements - bounce and spin, with the proximity setting on, so when you pass through the object they start to move

larger scale.png

I wanted to experiment with the size. As the experiments before were just in a small tracked corner area of my room. I enlarged all the images and surrounded them around me. This is to start to create the idea of immersive, intense, overwhelming, confusing sense of surrounding that the user could experience. To signify the confusion and inner conflict of thought and feeling the soldiers would have in the midst of the Vietnamese war, with Hanoi Hannahs manipulative propaganda.

I like the larger scale of this, as its as described above, more immersive and chaotic. You also notice the details more on the individual elemtns, allowing my future outcomes to have more refinement

The larger faces for example bring a more frightening element to the augmented reality, which is definitely an emotion the soldiers must of been feeling

Ii will be bringing the larger scale element to my further developments however I don't think the black and white is effective, as it doesn't include my colour theory manipulation cycle, and it gives the effect of a generic war, depressing imagery. I want my exhibition to be more memorable, which colour is scientifically proven to enhance the memory cognitive system

I prefer this one generally fro the colour attribute. From doing this experiment however it made me realise I do not want to use digital collage, or specifically just digital. As I want to make the design style my own, so creating my own work is the route to take .

I think digital collage is not as effective as for example illustration within the adobe software,, as it is hard to find high quality digital collage elemtns and I think like the adobe aero work of the ' under the seat ' looked more impressive drawn.

The drawn elements also link to the hand drawn propaganda used in Vietnam during the war, and to Dave Bregers G.I Joe ( I have examples of these within the adobe aero experimentation above )

too small a scale for an exhibition piece,

Abstract

Abstract

We offer a framework for understanding how color operates to improve visual memory for images of the natural environment, and we present an extensive data set that quantifies the contribution of color in the encoding and recognition phases. Using a continuous recognition task with colored and monochrome gray-scale images of natural scenes at short exposure durations, we found that color enhances recognition memory by conferring an advantage during encoding and by strengthening the encoding-specificity effect.

Within this experimentation I deconstructed and pulled apart the Vietnamese illustration. I created separate layers on photoshop and placed these seperatley in the adobe aero in alignment with there original placement within the drawing

obviously this is much more time consuming, however I think it is worth it for the effect. It feels like you get to understand the piece, as a user, in more depth as you are seeing each individual detailed layer and then the whole visual information at the end. This would allow me to add hidden elements, that without this technique, you wouldn't notice

The technique also has more feeling of immersion

as you are in the drawing compared to stood outside viewing It
