I decided to Instagram message Manards, a fictional designer combining his background in graffiti, classical fine arts, and graphic design in his unique portfolio. I came across his work on Behance and was instantly mesmerised. I couldn’t find a lot of information about his processes and his workflow so decided to message him on instagram. He provided me a lot of useful information and I will continue to use this research to delve into the world of messy interface further. The main link between his work and our brief is that he creates his futuristic three dimensional design from a reconfiguration he creates of famous “grandmaster” paintings in the idea of them centuries ago actually being exposed to computer softwares and programmes. This is a real life example of juxtapositioning analogue and digital works. The original painting therefore being analogue and Manards design being digital. A messy interface.
To the right is a colour palette I have created colour dropping colours from of his pieces and editing them on nomad sculpt.
collaboration elements
My friend who does animation wanted to add a graffiti tag to the building. So he drew me his logo and I made it into a material and placed it in to one of the rooms of the mill
also within this room I decided to showcase some other designers associated with my brief. I messaged some photographers who captured people in events spaces similar to this one in Manchester. I incorporated them within a gallery style space within the render, a bizarre dream within a dream effect ( inception reference ) that there is an exhibition within an exhibition.
All above obviously said yes and they are excited
to see the final design.
why?
this was an idea I came up with more at the start of the project, when I was focusing more on the human experience of rave spaces and abandoned architecture. However I really enjoyed merging my illustration elements to the digital three dimensional sculpting and I felt this is another version of that. There is something very aesthetically interesting mixing something that is analogue and very digital together, it creates a weird but intriguing relationship. Plus the concept of an exhibition within an exhibiton was funny and fever dreamlike.
