why is red such a sexualised colour ?
There is a large array of emotional responses that are associated with colors. Some of these are obvious, some obscure. Certain associations are specific to a country or region, while others are universally recognized—being rooted in human anatomy or observable natural phenomena
“At once, red is the passionate and ardent hue of the spectrum, marking the saint and the sinner, patriotism and anarchy, love and hatred, compassion and war.” – Faber Birren
Red is a very emotionally intense color. It enhances human metabolism, increases respiration rate, and raises blood pressure. It has very high visibility, which is why stop signs, stoplights, and fire equipment are usually painted red. In heraldry, red is used to indicate courage. It is a color found in many national flags.

Social psychologists with an evolutionary bent are in love with the color red. Women wear red, according to this view, as a sexual signal to attract men (e.g. Elliot et al., 2012). In non-human primates, females show they’re ready to mate by displaying red on their bodies, including face, chest, or genitalia.
Although the red-sexiness link could be rooted in cultural factors, such as the use of red to signal sexual availability in “red light” districts, red on a woman may also be a cue that a woman is at her most fertile point in the sexual reproductivity cycle. In two studies on small samples of men (22 and 25, respectively), Pazda and his team found that men regarded women wearing red as more sexually desirable and attractive due, so they showed statistically, to their perception that the women in red were more sexually receptive. In another in their series of studies on restaurant behavior researchers Nicolas Guéguen and Celine Jacob showed that waitresses wearing red received higher tips from male, but not female, patrons.
However, there are plenty of non-positive associations to red. Everything from blood to stop signs to the ink teachers use to grade our papers shows up in a bright red hue equal to any sexy woman's lips. As often as it means “come hither,” then, red also means danger.
